2012-06-14 Mad Lib-Ations

A while back Mon Cherie Presents had meetings so that performers could get together, talk about up coming shows, network, etc...  however it was usually during the day before 4pm because that was the only time available at the venue before everyone had to get bustling for whatever shows were going to occur that night.  I came to as many as I could but with school and such it was very hard for me to always make the meetings.  The ones that I came to had either a handful of people that rotated out or it ended up being just her, me and maybe one other person.  With the time being hard for people to make she decided to come up with something new!

In March, Mon Cherie debuted her newest endeavor, Mad Lib-Ations at L5P Corner Tavern.  So when she started out this was a once a month event, however it has taken off so well that it now occurs every Thursday!  From 7pm-midnight people could come out, grab dinner, grab a drink and fill out up to 9 forms of random nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc... for some amazing prizes.  It would also act as a new time and place for Mon Cherie to be able to meet and greet with potential performers, sponsors, and networking for everyone who wants to show up.  She also has set up meetings for businesses that have been hiring around Atlanta to help people find jobs in these tough times.  So not only can you go have a great time, you can meet people and help your career.

Last night was the first time I got to come out for Mad Lib-Ations and it was an amazing time.  B, Lola LeSoleil and I arrived around 9pm and caught a glimpse of Talloolah Love before she ran off.  We had drinks, ordered food, named our team "Motor Homes of Distinction" and proceeded to come up with some of the most random things we could think of to fill out our forms for each round.  After our first round we were joined by Sunny Midnight and her entourage.    We had two teams for our table and then Lola and I decided to buy some raffle tickets.  They were 1 for $5, 3 for $10 or crotch to floor for $20.  Lola le Soleil's and I decided to pool our money and her crotch to floor got us 20 tickets!  We won 1st place for four rounds of Mad Libs and won three raffle prizes!   Our loot included: $20 gift certificate to The Corner Tavern, one hour portrait or boudoir session from The Photo Factory and Studio, a Lux De Ville hand bang, a hat and fascinator by Habadab'Cherie, a pair of earrings by Jezebel Blue, and a $50 gift certificate for Loki Shane Defrice at Sacred Heart Tattoo in Little Five Points.

We had an amazing silly time and rediculous amount of fun.  The cost is only as much food and drink that you want to purchase and if you decide to buy raffle tickets as there is no cover.  We couldn't use the $20 gift certificate the night we won it but we'll definitely be going back to cash that in!

As far as Little Five Points Tavern itself, over all the staff was really nice, except for the lady who was our actual waitress.  She was kind of gruff and unfriendly.  We got our food and such, but she was obviously not happy about it.  The rest of the staff that was helping her out was super nice and really friendly so I'm assuming that our waitress was just having an off night.  Just as a word of caution, as there were six of us at our table they did add an 18% tip to the bill.  I hate when places do that, so you've been warned.

2011-05-27 Va-Va Voom Black Light Burlesque Show

Mon Cherie Presents Va-Va Voom is a bi-monthly burlesque show at The Shelter that has been pushing envelopes and amazing themes for the past two years.  Just when you thought you'd seen everything Mon Cherie bring Black Light Burlesque with body painted beauties and a generous use of iridescent fabrics.  Even the audience was dressed to the glow in the dark nines in body paint and glowing fabric.  You have to admire theme's so great that the audience wants to participate!

Doors opened at 9pm and I got there around 10pm.  I was greeted by the Mouth of the South herself, Miss Mason, screaming out the window for me to, "get (my) barrel rolling ass up stairs and fix (her) hair".  So I scampered up the stairs so go forth and whip hair into action.  We got her rolls up and looking great in under five minutes.  I then went on to help tame the tresses of Tupelo Honey as well.  Who knew that though I can't do my own hair I kick ass at doing others hair.  It had been raining the day before and it was terribly humid so everyone who was attempting to do their own hair was terribly jealous of those of us who choose Lee Press On Hair for the evening.  For those that don't know me, that includes anything from wigs to pony falls.

After helping with the hair emergencies I finally got to wander out from backstage to get my super cool spot next to Mr. Wombat so I could take photos of the show.  First up was our lovely FemC, Miss Mason, encouraging everyone to buy raffle tickets, by her shots of SoCo and to tip.  After some fun time with black light reactive bubbles, it was time to start the show.

The first set opened with a duet by New Orleans Jon and Tupelo Honey.  He sang while she did a seductive strip tease with occasional aid from him.  Once she had gotten past her glowing white gloves and white fringe she began stripping him before he removed her top and she sauntered off stage, never showing the audience a thing.  It was a great blend of live vocals and a truly tantalizing tease!  The next act was a seductive strip with a belly dance base done by Stormy Knight.  Bathed in a white robe with blue hair she looked like an Anime Angel.  When she took off her gloves her nails glowed under the black light which I thought was an amazing touch.  She shimmied her way in and out of her robe and top with an amazing rope and yarn belt that glowed and swayed with her movements.  Following her was Scarlett Page who took the most advantage of white under a black light dressed as a nurse.  She stripped and strutted to Alice in Chains making everyone want a physical exam. Closing the first set was Kittie Katrina to Bjork's It's Oh So Quiet which seems to be a favorite among performers.  Se did an amazing job with being the only performer not using white and was covered in pink and other colored glowing ties wrapped around her and in her hair.  She did a great job with the dynamics of the song with pulling you in during the slow quieter parts and then exploding with energy during the up swings.
It was a great way to end the first set.

In between sets DJ 313 kept the dance floor back and the bar was slammed from everyone that couldn't take their eyes off the stage during the show.  There were girls dancing in the hanging chain cage, glowing gals riding the quarter pony rides and many enjoying the additional show of the rowdy and borderline raunchy that the patrons were putting on in their drunken enjoyment.  Sometimes people watching the crowd is just as much fun as the amazing and talented performers on stage.

The second set opened with The Chameleon Queen painted fully like a Van gogh and performing to Siouxsie Sioux (it happened to be Sioxsie's birthday) with her Sally Rand Fans.  It was absolutely beautiful the way they moved around her seemingly effortlessly and at speeds that should not be attempted by an inexperienced fan dancer.  It was an amazing display of swirling beauty and skill.  After The Chameleon Queen wowed the audience it was time for the ladies to come up to to the front.  New Orleans Jon came to serenade the ladies with a wonderful rendition of Wicked Games.  There was a bachelorette party in the audience and the bride to be received a kiss on the cheek after his performance, I dare say that was probably the high light of her evening.  Closing out the evening was Stormy Knight fully painted and doing a sultry strip tease out of what appeared to be sheer bed sheets giving the performance a very intimate feel, as if you were sneaking a peak into her bed room.  She showed off some amazing acrobatics from shimmies to back bends and was an amazing high note to end the show on.  Curtain call brought everyone back out semi clothed to take a bow with all of the performers as well as the master mind behind Va-Va Voom, Mon Cherie.  It was an amazing night and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

2011-03-26 Mon Cherie Present's Va-Va-Voom: "We're All Mad Here!"

On March 26th The Shelter was invaded by Mad Hatters, Cheshire Cats, Catapillers, White Rabbits,  and a bevy of blonde beauties who all seemed to be named Alice.  It was time for Mon Cherie Presents Va-Va-Voom with a special Alice in Wonderland edition titled "We're All Mad Here!"

MCing both sets was the Mouth of the South, Miss Mason.  With an adorable tiny top hat and an assortment of tea cups in different sizes all holding her precious Southern Comfort, she made the audience laugh, get rowdy and beg for the performers as she instructed!  Opening the show was the ever mysterious Chameleon Queen in a full furry regulation bunny suit making sure everyone was on time for their very important date with the hotness that was her.  Following the Chameleon Queen was Torchy Taboo as Alice who took everyone on a tour of her rhinestone rabbit hole!  She was a sassy blonde bombshell and showed everyone why she's the Godfather of Atlanta Burlesque.  New Orleans Jon came out as Mr. Three and sang "Roses are Red my love" with his normal smarmy twist.  Jacqueline Trade did a very acrobatic routine as the Cheshire Cat which included many of the amazing props she built for the show including a swing suspended from the ceiling.  Closing out the first act was Talloolah Love performing her "Too Darn Hot" routine before she took it to Viva Las Vegas Easter Weekend to represent the South.

The second act opened with Catatonic Raucous as the Caterpillar.  She was body painted blue from head to toe and looked amazingly ethereal with her strip tease and blue Isis wings. New Orleans Jon had another song to sing as Mr. Three. Then came Katherine Lashe (me) as the Mad Hatter with a break away straight jacket. Next was Scarlett with her burlesque debut to Ace of Spades, a brilliant music choice and a great first time out.  Closing out the second act was Stormy Knight as The Queen of Hearts with an amazing costume, a regal stage presence and a sword for anyone that didn't agree.

It was an amazing night with DJ Jennocide spinning and keeping everyone out on the dance floor.  It was a spinning room of fluffy tails, top hats, cat ears and blonde hair dancing the night away.  Mon Cherie sure does know how to put on a hell of a party and her vision had a repeat performance the next night for a private event which also went over smashingly.

2011-02-26 Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge

On February 26, 2011, Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge once again descended on Purgatory at The Masquerade!  With Jello Shots a plenty to lubricate the crowd, it was a night of rough and rowdy rockabilly!

The Atomic Rockets with special guest Flathead Mike was the house band for the night.  It was good to hear them rock out with their proverbial cocks out to a very appreciative crowd!  In between sets Rev Andy spun a Psychobilly Freakout to keep the sing dancers swinging and the crowd hoppin'!  There was spins, jitterbugs and jive a plenty.  It was as if the dance floor was transported back into a 1950s dream where everyone was having a great time.

The sponsors had some amazing prizes for the raffle, including gift certificates to Sacred Heart L5P Tattoo, some interesting "tobacco paraphernalia" from Village Smoke Shop, along with some other amazing prizes.  At $5 for one or 3 for $10, the raffle tickets are a steal considering the value of the prizes you win.

The burlesque show started at midnight with myself (Katherine Lashe) as the Mistress of Ceremonies with broken heart burlesque performances for the end of the Valentine's Day month.  Starting the show was Jacqueline Trade with her giant wrench that put most of the men in the audience to shame.  Stormy Knight did a naughty house wife routine that showed you what really happens in the kitchen.   New Orleans Jon came out and did an amazing act with assistance from Tupelo Honey.  I would love to tell you what this act was, but in the hopes that they may do it again I will not give details about the awesomeness which works best as a surprise.  I can tell you it was 80s-tastic!  There was an amazingly awesome woman who did an act with fire that was smoldering with sex....I suck and can't remember her name, hopefully someone will correct me!  Rounding out the show was Katrina Laveaux all the way from Birmingham, AL, to be the undead voodoo queen everyone calls on when they have a broken heart.

Over all the night was an amazing gathering of creme de le creme of the Atlanta Rockabilly scene.  Pompadours, victory curls and fabulous fifties fashions as far as the eyes could see. 2011-01-28 Va-Va Voom

Mon Cherie Presents hosted it's bi monthly Va-Va Voom night at The Shelter on  Friday, January 28th.  Mon Cherie's known for hosting amazing parties; from her Rockabilly Lounges, Chamber Reunion fetish themed nights and burlesque themed Va-Va Voom nights; she always knows how to bring something special to a typical club night and leave the audience wanting more and dying to know when the next event will be.  With an amazing raffle with prizes donated from Lux de Ville, Loki Shane at Sacred Heart Tattoo L5P, Jezebel Blue,  HellKat Designs, and hand made pasties by Mon Cherie herself, I honestly think people come for the prizes just as much as they come for the show!

There were two burlesque sets hosted by the mouth of the south Miss Mason, the first included an amazing light up hula hoop striptease by Rebecca DeShon, Winter Wonderland with a snow queen so hot she'd make you melt by Kittie Katrina,  a sultry strip tease by Catatonic Raucous, some red hot Double Ds of Dixie action by the Rockabilly Queen D'lilah D'lite, and an audience participation lapdance by CoCo DuPree.  Between sets DJ Jennocide spun her little heart out keeping the patrons rocking out on the dance floor, putting on their own show as it were.

The second set opened with Jazzine singing to her man, then an beautiful and graceful fan dance by Gesche Anneliesa, after that came a shiney and stimulating striptease by Evil Sarah, before a rockabilly shimmy and shake by Kittie Katrina for her second act of the night, and closing out the evening was the Hour Glass and a Half Tupelo Honey shaking her demon self and making the boys want to go down in flames with her!

2010-09-18 Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge

Mon Cherie Presents The Rockabilly Lounge at The Masquerade with special guests from all over the country.  The performers included New Orleans Jon who was the Master of Ceremonies and who sang a beautiful rendition of Moon Dance.  He then brought out the beautiful Katarina Laveaux from Birmingham, AL, who did a very sultry classic act that included both fans and a boa.  Then came the always fun Catatonic Raucous who did a fun glittery striptease in a pseudo Victorian style outfit.  The closing finale was the hip-notic Szandora La Vey of LA who did a sultry strip tease in devil red while slowly moving a hula hoop around her body.  It was the most sensual hula hoop act I have ever seen.  It turns out that Ms La Vey as family in town so hopefully we'll be seeing her again next time she comes for a visit.


The band for the evening was The Suicide Doors.  They were a lot of fun and in their second set one of the members decided to put on a corslet to show solidarity with the burlesque performers.  There was also a raffle that included items from the vendors as well as the most coveted Lux De Ville Purse and beautiful hair flowers made by Mon Cherie herself.


It was an amazing show for all 10 of us that showed up.  Sadly I think that because of Anime Weekend Atlanta, people being out of town for the New Orleans Burlesque Fest, and the East Atlanta Strut going on that weekend it really reduced the turn out.  I am hopeful that the next Rockabilly Lounge on Oct 15, will be much better attended.

2010-08-27 Mon Cherie's Va Va Voom

Mon Cherie's Presents hosted Va-Va Voom at The Shelter to close out the month of August.  It was a packed house of patrons, vendors, performers and a great time!

The wonderful Mason MCed with some fabulous performances by Dahlia Danger who had a cute monolouge to go along with her disrobing, she looked just like a present when she was done.  Chad Sanborn taught us how to do magic Mr. Roger's style with his magic tampon and a banana.  Rebecca DuShon hooped her way into everyone's hearts and donated a free lesson and a hula hoop to the raffle!  I think everyone was very excited about the raffle!  There were donations from Streetzie's High Heel Bunny Slippers, Loysville (who was also vending) and Lux de Ville, it was an amazing prize pack and I am sure there was more then one person who was disappointed they didn't win!

Everyone that turned out was dressed to the nines and it was a packed house!  There wasn't a lot of dancing going on due to lack of room from the crowd, but there was plenty of socializing and drinks flowing. I didn't get to take as many photos as I would have liked because it was hard to get a clear shot of the stage with everyone so pressed up against it.  Mon Cherie sure does know how to throw one heck of a party!

2010-07-24 Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge

This past Saturday was Mon Cherie's Rockabilly Lounge.  With Uncle Daddy and the Kissing Cousins as the band and Chad Sanborn and Ursula Undress performing as part of their b-day celebrations you knew the turn out was going to be massive!  Vendors for the evening included Throne Jewelry, Loysville and Libertine who had some super cute Rockabilly items for purchase.  The evening got a later start then normal as The Masquerade had double booked Purgatory and of course the event before ran late because that's how these things happen.  It was jam packed with people from the first show and people filtering in for Rockabilly Lounge in no air conditioning...so it was an rocky start to the evening, but it turned into a great night!


Mason was our hostess extraordinare for the evening!  She was alluring, funny and did an amazing job introducing the band and the burlesque!  Uncle Daddy kicked off the evening with a wonderful set, it was so packed I could not get close enough to the stage to take any photos but the music was fun and it was overheard, "Man, they're good! That singer, he sounds just like June Carter. He sound JUST like June, man."  That lead singer was Dickie Hickey, better known as Dickie Van Dyke of Blast Off Burlesque, so yeah, HE sounded just like June Carter, lol.


The burlesque show opened up with Chad Sanborn doing his detective routine.  Though I've seen it hundreds of times it never gets old.  He picked a beautiful assistant out of the audience to be his crime lord accomplice as he popped his balloons all the way to the big house!  Then came a new performer Kitty, who I am told has been shaking it in Oregon before taking it off here. She was a pocket sized pile of cute and sexy with some amazing ink and amazing moves.  Mon Cherie does have an eye for talent!  Then came Gesche Anneliesa with her gold and peacock fan dance.  Her corset, panties and pasties were all a nude base that made the tantalizing reveals from behind her fans seem even more naughty.  Then Rebecca DuShon hooped her way around the stage with an amazing light up hula hoop.  She was a high energy, adorable swirl of light and color. After her was Dahlia Danger who looked like a 1940s movie star in her shiny silver dress. She called it her Jiffy Pop dress and I have to say, the audience was very excited to see her pop out of it to Shake Your Lovemaker by Cherry Poppin' Daddies.  Then came The Sultan of Soda, Chad Sanborn again with his Tiny Bubbles routine.  Full of soda, theft and hilarity!  It's a crowd favorite no matter how many times people have seen it.  Closing out the show was Ursula Undress with a Bettie Page Tribute to Wild Cat.  I was especially excited to see this number as I helped with the costume and frankly, Ursula is always wonderful to watch.  She shimmed and shook her way out of her clothes and into the audience's hearts.  She was definitely the audience favorite of the evening as it was the first time many of them had seen her perform since they followed her across the country to see her compete at Viva Las Vegas this past April.  After she brought the house down Mason brought everyone back out for curtain call with special birthday cupcakes for Ursula, Chad and New Orleans Jon who was in the audience. 


After the burlesque show there was a raffle for fabulous prizes from Sour Puss Clothing before Uncle Daddy and the Kissing Cousins hit the stage one more time to wrap up the night.  The whole event was a who's who of Southern burlesque with people like Talloolah Love, The Chameleon Queen, Tupelo Honey, Lala Lucious and Big Mamma D all the way from Charlotte in the audience.  It was an amazing event and I can't wait to see what else Mon Cherie has up her sleeve!
